FAQs

We understand that you may have some questions. If you cannot find the answers here, feel free to contact us.

What kinds of hosting?

  1. Hosting – this is the main way which most people support us, offering one or more of the following:
    • Private hosts – inviting Israelis* to stay with you short term (overnight or a few days.
    • Commercial hosts (hostels / hotels / motels / camping grounds / caravan parks / BnB / Farm Stay / Home Stay – we advertise you for free in exchange for the best deal or discount to travel club members (Israelis)
    • Social hosts – inviting Israelis for a meal or coffee / taking them out on day trips in the area / picking them up from the airport / taking them boating, fishing, biking, hiking, hunting, shopping, etc (but with no overnight stays)
    • Space in your yard to pitch a tent or park their campervan – in some countries Israelis rent campervans and just need a place to park it overnight
    • House Sitting – if you need someone to water your plants / feed your animals while you are away
    • House Swapping – if you would like to swap houses with someone else on the HIT network (other hosts or perhaps even Israelis)

I can’t host. Can I still be a part of HIT?

While hosting is the major way to support Israelis, there are also many other ways which you can be a part of the HIT network:

  • Prayer Supporter – vitally important for us to pray for Israel and travellers – especially at such a time as this.
  • Service Provider – operators of touristic businesses (both secular and believers) or other business which tourists use (such as restaurants, cafes, transport) – we can advertise you for free in exchange for a “deal” or discount to HIT travel club members (Israelis)
  • Work provider – some Israelis have a working-holiday visa and are looking for short-term work, either paid or in return for accommodation and food (cutting wood, fencing, painting, farm work, etc)
  • Advocating for HIT:
    • Telling your friends about HIT and encouraging them to join as hosts / services.
    • Sharing social media about HIT – writing an article or placing an advertisement.

Occasionally, people also help us out financially. Omri never asks for money but sometimes people are led to give to help us continue the work, which is gratefully received. However, the the most helpful ways to support us are by hosting and praying for us.

Who can host?

Anyone who loves Israel and the Jews can join us!

While some of our hisys are Israelis living outside of Israel, and some are Jews living in the diaspora, the vast majority of our hosts are Christians who want to meet and bless Israelis with the hope of sharing the love of their God with them. But, we are open to anyone who loves Israel and wants to bless the Jews to join with us.

While she can no longer host overnight, Kia is very happy to invite Israelis for a shabbat meal in her little home

What is expected of a host?

What we do not expect:

  1. You do not need to feed your guests (though you are very welcome to, if you wish)
  2. You do not need to entertain them (though you can, of course)
  3. You do not need to provide laundry service, though this is helpful.
  4. You do not need to provide sheets (Israelis often travel with a sleeping bag), though you can if you would like to.
  5. You are not obligated to accept every visitor, every time – only the times when it suits you.

What we do expect is:

  1. A place to sleep (a bed or mattress on the floor, or sofa/couch or a place to pitch a tent, or park with their van)
  2. A toilet / shower that they can use
  3. A kitchen where they can cook – it’s doesn’t need to be kosher (most Israelis are secular and are more likely to be vegetarian than kosher-keeping). It doesn’t need to be separate – if you are ok with them using your kitchen, that’s perfect!

Anything else is “extra” and it’s up to you.

  • Register as a service – click here and fill in only the “service” section of the host form (ignore all questions about accommodation – unless you you are offering a place to sleep too!)
  • Join our closed Facebook group to keep up with the latest news: www.facebook.com/groups/HIT-NZ
    • Then message Omri and let him know you are a new host and where.
    • Once approved, scroll through the posts and LIKE the ones who are not relevant to you, but LOVE and comment on the ones which are, inviting Israelis to stay with you.
    • Come back to the group regularly.
  • Like, comment and share our Social Media pages. The more you LIKE the more that other people will see our posts and perhaps want to join HIT – liking our posts is very helpful to us:
